So it finally happened, I at 29 got braces. I did have bottom braces and an upper palate seperater in h.s. but my orthodontist fled the country because he was accused of murdering another orthodontist (I know only to me right?). Which rightfully ended that process. So since moving to lovely 29 Palms I decided that this is my last chance. It has been a long process already and it had just begun. I had seperators first, then brackets, then I had 4 teeth pulled 4 weeks ago and on Valentine's Day had the braces finally put on. Only 1 year and 11 months left to go!

Was it the TrimSpa?

Photo GalleryHOLLYWOOD - Reality TV star, actress and former model Anna Nicole Smith has died after collapsing in Hollywood, Florida. The 39-year-old was found unconscious in her hotel room at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino this afternoon. According to hotel officials, Smith was "unresponsive" and emergency crews performed CPR at the scene and a breathing apparatus was inserted in her throat. Paramedics were seen pumping her chest as she was taken from the hotel and transported to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood just after 2 p.m. EST today. She died at 3:45 p.m. EST. Local streets were closed off to rush Smith to the hospital, three miles away. Her five-month-old daughter, Dannielynn, was not with her mother, sources say. The baby is being cared for by a family friend in the Bahamas, where Smith has been living since last summer. Anna Nicole was fighting eviction and paternity lawsuits at the time of her death.

My Christmas Tree

If this doesn't open your eyes... nothing will! From the L.A. Times1. 40% of all workers in L.A. County ( L.A. County has 10.2 million people) are working for cash and not paying taxes. This was because they are predominantly illegal immigrants, working without a green card. 2. 95% of warrants for murder in Los Angeles are for illegal aliens. 3. 75% of people on the most wanted list in Los Angeles are illegal aliens. 4. Over 2/3 of all births in Los Angeles County are to illegal alien Mexicans on Medi-Cal, whose births were paid for by taxpayers. 5. Nearly 25% of all inmates in California detention centers are Mexican nationals here illegally. 6. Over 300,000 illegal aliens in Los Angeles County are living in garages. 7. The FBI reports half of all gang members in Los Angeles are most likely illegal aliens from south of the border. 8. Nearly 60% of all occupants of HUD properties are illegal. 9. 21 radio stations in L.A. are Spanish speaking. 10. In L.A. County 5.1 million people speak English. 3.9 million speak Spanish.(There are 10.2 million people in L.A. County). (All the above from the Los Angeles Times) Less than 2% of illegal aliens are picking our crops, but 29% are on welfare. Over 70% of the United States' annual population growth(and over 90% of California , Florida , and New York )results from immigration. The cost of immigration to the American taxpayer in 1997 was,(after subtracting taxes immigrants pay), a NET $70 BILLION/year, [Professor Donald Huddle, Rice University ]. The lifetime fiscal impact (taxes paid minus services used) for the average adult Mexican immigrant is a NEGATIVE number. 29% of inmates in federal prisons are illegal aliens. If they can come to this country to raise Hell and demonstrate by the thousands, WHY can't they take charge over the corruption in their own country? We are a bunch of fools for letting this continue. THE U.S. VS MEXICOOn February 15, 1998, the U.S. and Mexican soccer teams met at the Los Angeles Coliseum. The crowd was overwhelmingly pro-Mexican even though most lived in this country. They booed during the National Anthem and U.S. flags were held upside down. As the match progressed, supporters of the U.S. team were insulted, pelted with projectiles, punched and spat upon. Beer and trash were thrown at the U.S. players before and after the match. The coach of the U.S. team, Steve Sampson said, "This was the most painful experience I have ever had in this profession." Did you know that immigrants from Mexico and other non-European countries can come to this country and get preferences in jobs, education, and government contracts. It's called affirmative action or racial privilege. The Emperor of Japan or the President of Mexico could migrate here and immediately be eligible for special rights unavailable for Americans of European descent. Corporate America has signed on to the idea that minorities and third world immigrants should get special, privileged status. Some examples are Exxon, Texaco, Merrill Lynch, Boeing, Paine Weber, Starbucks and many more. DID YOU KNOW?Did you know ... that Mexico regularly intercedes on the side of the defense in criminal cases involving Mexican nationals? Did you know ... that Mexico has NEVER extradited a Mexican national accused of murder in the U.S. in spite of agreements to do so? According to the L.A. Times, Orange County , California is home to 275 gangs with 17,000 members, 98% of which are Mexican and Asian. How's your county doing? According to a New York Times article dated May 19, 1994, 20 years after the great influx of legal immigrants from Southeast Asia, 30% are still on welfare compared to 8% of households nationwide. A Wall Street Journal editorial dated December 5, 1994 quotes law enforcement officials as stat-ing that Asian mobsters are the "greatest criminal challenge the country faces." Not bad for a group that is still under 5% of the population. Is education important to you? Here are the words of a teacher who spent over 20 years in the Los Angeles School system. "Imagine teachers in classes containing 30-40 students of widely varying attention spans and motivation, many of whom aren't fluent in English. Educators seek learning materials likely to reach the majority of students and that means fewer words and math problems and more pictures and multicultural references." WHEN I WAS YOUNGI remember hearing about the immigrants that came through Ellis Island . They wanted to learn English. They wanted to breathe free. They wanted to become Americans. Now, far too many immigrants come here with de-mands. They demand to be taught in their own language. They demand spe-cial privileges ... affirmative action. They demand ethnic studies that glorify their culture. NOW ... WHY CAN'T WE SEND THEM HOME?

Marine Corps Ball, 9th Nov 2006

The Marine Corps celebrates its birthday every year with a Ball. The Marines wear their dress blues and their guests wear gowns. This year was the Marine Corps 231st birthday and Brad's battalion held the ball in Primm, Nevada. There was the traditinal ceremony with colors and the cutting of the cake by the oldest and youngest Marines present (birth yr's were 88 & 51), food, drinks, and dancing. Yes, I did get Brad to dance.

Big Bear Birthday

Since I have a fall birthday Brad and I try to get away for a long weekend and find a place to watch the leaves change. It was a little harder to do this year but we went to Big Bear and enjoyed the cooler temps. We did everything from playing Bingo at the Elks lodge (we were the youngest), to walking around the lake, to going to Oktoberfest, where my parents met us and we ate German food and listend to authentic music. It was a great weekend.
Happy Birthday to Me!

Anyone who really knows me knows what my number one fear in life is. It isn't heights (although I don't like them), it isn't flying (although I dread it), and it isn't the thought of being dead (even though that thought isn't pleasant either). No my Numero Uno fear in life is...Vomit. Weird, I know that is what you are thinking, you are saying to yourself, "well self I don't particularly like it" but mine goes way beyond that. So what does this have to do with anything and why in the world would I blog about it? Well here is my story...
All you ever needed to know you learned in kindergarten right? Well today I went back as a substitute teacher, my first day alone in a classroom as a substitute teacher. What a better way to start then with sweet innocent little kinderdgartners. So who knew that twenty 5 year old kids could steam roll over me like that? Well they did and it was a nightmare, they look so sweet and have such tiny voices but when your back turns I think there heads spin and the devil himself comes out to play havoc on a poor new sub like me. It was absolute chaos. Have you ever seen Arnold in Kindergarten Cop, that was me. A completely competent adult in the adult world but get me in a K classroom and all of my composure goes right out the window. Oh and to top it all off at the end of the day a little boy gave me the sweetest little grin and then vomitted all over. What was I to do but run for maintenance, crying would come later.

Before today I thought I was a competent adult, clearly capable of teaching 5 year olds, just teach them the alphabet and numbers right? Before moving to Cali I worked for U of South Carolina as an Asst. Registrar, I had huge responsibilites. I dealt with new freshmen and all of the issues that came along with them, including their parents, I dealt with graduating seniors who realized they weren't going to graduate because I saw that they didn't meet the requirements, I dealt with faculty and administration, but nothing could have prepared me for today. Nothing was enough prepartion for twenty 5 year olds.
So my first day a substitue teacher and I learned a valuable lesson, never ever sub for a K class if you don't have children of your own and if you are afraid of vomit. They sense your vulnerability like wild animals and pounce at the first sign of weakness. Today I was their prey and they went home looking sweet again fully satisfied knowing that they had me in their clutches and right where they wanted me.
So now it is time to drink a beer,I know I don't drink but tonight I do, go crawl up in the fetal position, and hide in a closet where 5 year olds are afraid of the dark and won't find me. Except for maybe in my nightmares tonight.

I got this from a friend and I thought I would share it for all of you Mom's.
Before I was a Mom- I slept as late as I wanted and never worried about how late I got into bed. I brushed my hair & my teeth everyday.
Before I was a Mom- I cleaned my house each day. I never tripped over my toys or forgot words to a lullaby. I didn't worry whether or not my plants were poisionous. I never thought about immunizations.
Before I was a Mom- I had never been puked on. Pooped on. Spit on. Chewed on. Peed on. I had complete control of my mind and my thoughts. I slept all night.
Before I was a Mom- I never held down a screaming baby so that doctors could do tests..or give shots. I never looked into teary eyes and cried. I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin. I never sat up late hours at night watching a baby sleep.
Before I was a Mom- I never held a sleeping baby just because I didn't want to put her down. I never felt my heart break into a million pieces when I couldn't stop the hurt. I never knew that something so small could affect my life so much. I never knew that I could love someone so much. I never knew I would love being a mom.
Before I was a Mom- I didn't know the feeling of having my heart outside my body. I didn't know how special it could feel to feed a hungry baby. I didn't know that bond between a mother and her child. I didn't know that something so small could make me feel so important and happy.
Before I was a Mom- I had never gotten up in the middle of the night every 10 minutes to make sure all was okay. I had never known the warmth, the joy, the love, the heartache, the wonderment or the satisfaction of being a mom. I didn't know I was capable of feeling so much before I was a Mom

More Pics of Route 66

ROUTE 66 ~ Sept. 16th 2006
Dad Brought out the old '55, for a the annual Route 66 Rendezvous. This is one of the biggest car shows in the nation (according to Mom) and the classics were streched out for blocks. Dad's was the only 55 Ford we saw though. We took her out cruising along the designated path and old "Betsy" actually got a few hoots, or maybe that was for Mom.

NASCAR ~ California Speedway

Brad really enjoys Nascar and okay I admit it, I do enjoy a few left hand turns from time to time. My excuse... I have spent a few too many years in the South and I have a touch of redneck in me. We have our favorite drivers his Dale Earnhardt Jr. # 8, who finished 2nd that day, and mine #88 Dale Jarrett, who finished on the lead lap (that is an acomplishment). The good thing is I can yell "Go Dale Go!" without any dirty looks from Brad, now thats bonding.

At the time Brad and I were living in North Carolina in a smalll military town and I was working as a tech for the local veterinary hospital, since we worked 12 hour days we only worked four days a week, Wed's were my day off, Sept 11th 2001 was on a Wed. I had the Today show on and was actually getting ready to bring my cat to the hospitsl for a weigh in (he'd been on a diet) when the 1st plane hit. I at the time didn't realize what was going on. Then a second plane and the magnitude of the situation finally occurred to me. Brad came home form work shortly thereafter to inform me that he was on 24 hour stand by to fight but who exactly he would be defending us from I didn't know. We embraced and then he left again with my mind spinning. Not willing to be left alone I brought my 17inch t.v. to the vet hospital and we all watched and listened in shock and disbelief. That day changed us all, but as the spouse of a Marine it forever changed the way we view the world and our life together. Since 9/11 Brad has been on stand by countless times and has been on two tours to the middle east, the last was an 8 month stint in Afghanistan. His brother was in Fallujah during the collapse.Living on a Marine Base is a constant reminder of 9/11. Just driving to the commissary emblazoned on the back windshield of Marines cars are the names of their friends and comrades that have perished. Ninteen year old kids with widows and year old babies. Lest us not forget 9/11 and those who sadly perished tht day but let us also not forget those who have fought, regardless of ones personal political veiwpoint of the war.
